our HISTORY
CHAN’s
roots in the healthcare industry run deep.
Our story begins in 1988, when the Daughters of
Charity National Health System (now Ascension
Health) hired an experienced audit executive named
David LeMoine to develop and implement an internal
audit function. At that time, internal audits were
virtually unheard of in tax-exempt healthcare. David saw an
opportunity, not just to fill this gaping hole
but to do it in a way that would build respect
for internal auditors everywhere.
As word of Ascension Health’s
healthcare internal audit function spread, other
healthcare systems saw a need for similar services.
To address the demand, CHAN was formed in 1997
through the collaboration of Ascension Health and
Catholic Health Initiatives, the two largest
tax-exempt healthcare
systems in the United States. Today, CHAN has implemented
internal audit functions at more than 20 healthcare
networks, with ongoing operations in more than 350
hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide.
True to our beginnings, CHAN remains
dedicated to advancing healthcare ministries by providing
high quality, cost-effective internal audit services
that support our clients’ missions.
