“In my 25 years in the workforce, I have never been with a company that is as dedicated to community service as CHAN is. They’re not heavy-handed about it — no pressure from above to donate a portion of your paycheck to this charity or that. Instead, CHAN encourages you, in many ways, to find whatever community service you feel passionate about, and to devote time, resources, or whatever to furthering that charity’s cause. I think it’s a great way to ‘do’ community service.”
Steve - CHAN Communications Manager, St. Louis, MO
It shouldn’t be surprising that community service is a major part of CHAN’s culture. After all, the clients we have chosen to serve are nonprofit healthcare organizations, all dedicated to providing healthcare to those who cannot afford it. It’s part of their respective missions, which we support, starting with our company Vision statement calling for us “to assist our clients in fulfilling their mission.”
We like the mission spirit in our clients and we encourage it in our Associates. Here’s how:
Hurricane cleanup — Colorado auditor Tim devoted a week of vacation to cleaning up homes in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Meals on Wheels — In Texas, CHAN Audit Vice President Debbie has been a Meals on Wheels volunteer for more than a decade.
Bowling outings for retarded citizens — As a volunteer for the St. Louis Association for Retarded Citizens, CHAN Coding
Compliance Manager Anne leads a group on weekly bowling outings.
Hospice volunteer — In Little Rock, Arkansas, CHAN auditor Terri donates a couple of lunch hours a week to feeding patients in her client’s inpatient hospice unit.
Pollution cleanup — Paul, a CHAN auditor in Texas, took time off work for Coast Guard duty after Hurricane Katrina. He plotted helicopter missions to oversee pollution cleanup efforts near New Orleans.
Thanksgiving for ex-prisoners — CHAN’s St. Louis office prepares Thanksgiving baskets for a charity that helps women who have recently served jail time for nonviolent offenses.
Against child abuse — CHAN’s St. Louis office adopts a charity for 2007: Kingdom House, which provides daycare, child abuse prevention, youth programs, family counseling, job training and placement, and senior services.
Helping Mississippi schoolchildren — In 2006, CHAN promotes a firmwide initiative to collect donations to buy new athletic and playground equipment for Mississippi schools damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Brightening Christmas — CHAN Associates throughout the U.S. donated toys to make Christmas 2006 a little brighter for underprivileged children.
